Weathered Deck Restoration

Weathered Deck Restoration

Cape May, NJ

This Cape May exterior restoration revived a heavily weathered deck while improving its appearance, safety, and long-term durability. The project began with pressure washing the entire house, including the deck and outdoor shower area, to remove accumulated dirt, discoloration, and surface buildup.

Loose deck boards were secured before the steps and top rails were thoroughly sanded. Uneven transitions throughout the handrails were corrected, the railing returns were reshaped and smoothed, and damaged or irregular areas were rebuilt using Bondo and wood filler. These repairs were then sanded again to create cleaner lines and a more uniform finished surface.

The railings and spindles were finished with exterior stain, while the walkable deck surfaces received a thicker deck-and-dock coating designed to fill weathered areas, protect the existing boards, and extend the deck’s usable life. The completed restoration preserved the existing deck while delivering a cleaner, safer, and more cohesive outdoor living space.
